David Bergesen was a great supporter of Norwegian Arts and History in New England and his love for things Norwegian did not stop at there. He fell in love with the Norwegian Elkhound as well and for years worked with Elkhound breeders and organizations as well as breeding and training his own dogs.
He went on to found the Norwegian Elkhound Rescue and Referral of New England in order to help those dogs in need. His tireless efforts have helped so many dogs and we continue his legacy. He is missed greatly and will always be a part of this organization.

Eva Bergesen has lost her brave fight against cancer, and slipped peacefully from this world into the arms of her beloved David already waiting for her on the other side along with Simon, Freya, Fenris and Loki. Not one to give up nor give in--Eva also never let it get the best of her, no matter how difficult the day.
Eva was best known for her dedicated years of work in support of Norwegian Elkhound rescue. Her efforts echoed those of her late husband David and she continued that support after his death. Together they bred and exhibited Norwegian Elkhounds under the kennel name Trollheimen. She helped found and was a Lifetime Director of the Norwegian Elkhound Rescue & Referral of New England and supported NEAA and regional rescues through the years.
She was very active with the Sons of Norway, the Scandanavian Living Centre in Newton, MA. and a member of the Hopkinton Garden Club. Eva is survived by her one sister in Norway, who was here with her this last Christmas and her very special companion elkhound "Bamse" (Graafin KNK Watt's Up Doc?). She was so proud of him for his recent CGC and his upcoming TDI (so he can continue his nursing home visits to his other "mama" Anna Mae).
Eva was a cherished and dearly loved friend to so many.
There will be a memorial held to honour Evas' life:
